Graham McGregor, Ontario’s Associate Minister of Auto Theft and Bail Reform, convened a high-profile meeting on October 7, 2024, at Queen’s Park. He brought together stakeholders to coordinate efforts to fight auto theft and advocate for bail reform. Those in attendance included the MVRO, the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association and representatives from auto manufacturers, insurance companies and others.
McGregor was appointed Associate Minister of Auto Theft and Bail Reform on August 8, 2024. This newly created Cabinet portfolio, established by Premier Ford, showcases the importance of addressing auto theft and bail reform and the need to dedicate a Minister and resources to it.
Minister McGregor is championing a ‘whole of government approach’ – ensuring relevant ministries are working together towards shared goals. The meeting also included representatives from the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement.
“The MVRO is pleased to support Minister McGregor’s efforts to continue the fight against auto theft and advocate for bail reform,” said Frank Notte, Director of Government Relations for the MVRO. “I’ve seen firsthand the Minister’s passion for safer communities and getting tough on crime. I’m confident his tenacity to get things done will help put criminals out of business.”
In the meeting, Notte thanked Minister McGregor for Ontario’s Preventing Auto Thefts (PAT) funding to police services totalling $18 million over three years. This investment supports 21 projects that feature new and enhanced crime-fighting measures focused on prevention, detection, analysis and enforcement.
“The MVRO looks forward to continue working with Minister McGregor to discuss new and innovative ways we can put auto theft in the rear-view mirror,” said Notte.
The Motor Vehicle Retailers of Ontario been the voice of Ontario’s new car and truck retailers since 1908, offering industry leading advocacy and member support. MVRO’s 1,100 members generate and support 85,300 jobs and contribute $14 billion in GDP to Ontario’s economy every year.
