The following is a statement by Frank Notte, Director of Government Relations:
“The Motor Vehicle Retailers of Ontario congratulates Doug Ford on winning a third consecutive majority government – a feat not achieved since 1959.
Doug Ford is the most pro-auto Premier in Ontario’s history. With him at the wheel for another term, Ontario’s auto retail industry will continue to accelerate towards a stronger, more prosperous future.
His real-world business experience and political acumen make him the best person to protect Ontario from American tariffs. His relentless advocacy to make the case that America is stronger when working together with Ontario is exactly what we need – something those of us in the highly integrated North American auto industry know very well.
Since taking office in 2018, his long list of achievements includes lowering the cost of the family car by cutting the gasoline tax and removing licence plate renewal fees, eliminating red tape like the Drive Clean program and establishing the Digital Dealer Registration program. He’s also building new highways like Highway 413, made it easier and less costly to enter the automotive skilled trades, and secured $45 billion in global investments to build the vehicles of tomorrow.
The MVRO looks forward to working with Premier Ford on his election commitments focused on pro-auto policies like:
1. Saving drivers over $1 billion per year by cutting the gasoline tax.
2. Banning so-called “congestion pricing” on all roads and highways – which is a toll by another name.
3. Cracking down on auto theft by investing more than $70 million in new measures to help police dismantle organized crime networks, and
4. Expanding the use of GPS monitoring bracelets for people granted bail and requiring offenders to pay a fee to offset the cost of administering the GPS Monitoring Program.
Premier Ford’s proven track record of supporting the automotive industry is unparalleled. Ontario’s 1,100 new car and truck retailers are eager to work alongside him to implement his upcoming agenda of pro-auto policies.”
