Women Driven Career Spotlight: Lyne L’Esperance

How long have you been working in the automotive industry?

I’ve been in the automotive industry for 8 years, and 6 years with CARFAX Canada.

What initailly attracted you to pursue a career in this field?

After more than 20 years in Advertising, I needed a new challenge and, in 2013, a person that I had worked with previously reached out to me about a role at AutoTrader and saw it as an opportunity to try something new.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in your career and what strategies helped you to persevere?

I would say that the biggest challenge has been understanding the intricacies of how a car dealership works. Learning the kind of challenges my clients have on a daily basis, and then determining how I can best help these dealers with my knowledge of the CARFAX Canada products.

What do you find most rewarding about your career?

When I receive a sincere ‘thank you’ from my customers for the service I give them. I’m really proud of that and of the work that I do for them, because it’s an important value of our company to be there for our customers.

Do you have any advice for someone considering a career in automotive?

This industry moves at an incredibly rapid pace; the market can change almost on a weekly basis. So, make sure you keep on top of trends and stay connected to your network of dealers or salespeople.

Is there anything you wish someone had told you as you started your career in automotive?

Honestly? No! When I started in the industry, I had been in sales for a while already, and when you love working with people and you really appreciate the company you’re working for, that’s the perfect combination for success. So, follow your dreams and make each day the best you can!
