Re: Statement by the Motor Vehicle Retailers of Ontario on the 2023 Fall Economic Statement

November 2, 2023

The following is a Statement by Frank Notte, Director of Government Relations:

“The Motor Vehicle Retailers of Ontario – representing Ontario’s 1,100 franchised, new car and truck retailers – applaud today’s Fall Economic Statement presented by Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy.

By extending the 5.7 cents per litre tax cut on gasoline until June 30, 2024, Minister Bethlenfalvy is delivering real relief to drivers and businesses like auto retailers who use gasoline as an input cost.

For the vast majority of Ontarians, the family car is a necessity to run their household. According to Statistics Canada, transportation costs make up nearly 20 per cent of the household budget. In today’s high inflation environment, an extended gasoline tax cut is a meaningful way to lower the cost of vehicle ownership for families and lower the cost of doing business for new car and truck retailers.”
